Question. What are people doing to keep the door from opening while traveling? All the refers I've seen don't have a positive latch. Just curious.

In our case the handles for the side by side freezer fridge are very close. I throw a piece of Velco around them. Angela uses one of those fridge compression bars inside the fridge on two shelves. We used them on the Norcold as well so we already had them. I am not sure they are needed as the door shelf is right against the shelf but she likes the idea of being sure nothing will fall out when the door is opened.

We are changing our NOcold 1200 for a Samsung rf197 french door fridge this Wednesday and there is NO need for any pure sine wave inverter. Samsung has openly stated their fridge will operate on a MSW inverter without any problem. Also, I spoke to another fridge manufactures engineer about that and he said the same thing, there is NO reason that any late model energy star fridge will not run on a MSW inverter, except for the very top of the line electronic models. Any good 2-4 battery bank, will be more than enough to operate it for 6-8 hours daily as your engine alternator is charging your house bank as you drive. Install a good "energy star" model and you will have no problems, plus you will have cold food and frozen ice cream.......

I kinda thought they would run on a MSW inverter but was afraid to say it "por si las moscas". Someone once told me that the motors run slightly noisier with modified sine wave inverters. If it is using a DC motor I suspect the conversion is done in the fridge and it really wouldn't matter if it is TSW or MSW.

We changed ours for a Samsung and plugged the gas line and used the RV fridges 120v recep., works great. Wife will never have an RV one again. It is a French door 18 cu. ft. model. We use a velcro strap around fridge doors and a snap on strap for the freezer. We may rewire so recep. is fed by the inverter. The tag says max amp draw is 3.9 so it doesn't take much.

Dave, if you had a RV fridge with an icemaker, there is probably already inverter power in the area. Most manufacturers ran the IM on the inverter so you would have ice while dry camping with the fridge on LP.

Louisa, I can't help on changing to residential but if you decide on fixing it by changing the cooling unit, check out our YouTube video: Our Norcold to Amish Built Cooling Unit Change-out

Hope it helps,
