Trying to decide on best date. Our choices are May 5th or June 2nd. We will be staying a week. We are wondering if there will be zillions of school groups on field trips in May??? Which date do you think is better and why. Thought someone who lives in the area may be able to give us their advice. Thanks.

I was there the first week or so of May last year. I wouldn't say a "zillion" but there WERE school groups. One teacher and I dang near came to blows about her letting the kids run loose....a kid stepped on my sore foot, I pushed him away and she had the nerve to chew ME out!!!!!! So, if you can tolerate inconsiderate, uncontrolled kids, go for it.....

Although I don't live near there, I would probably pick June. Most of the schools are still in session but are buckling down for finals, etc.

I would definitely pick June 2nd. We were there then last year. Low crowds everywhere.

I would go before school is out and try to go during the week.
We toured Jamestown in early Nov last year and it was not busy at all. Very pleasant.
It will also be cooler in early May.

We went the second week of June one time and nearly died from the extreme heat and humidity. Last time we spent a week in October there and loved it! Perfect weather and low crowds!

I visited a year ago in April before the schools Spring break. The weather was great and the park was empty. There were no issues with event tickets, restaurant reservations or camping. May and June is way past the ideal time and the temps and humidity are high. Visit this year and then consider early plans for next year.

Many great times to go: 1. avoid kids by going during school, as was suggested; 2. Christmas time is magical there, and should be seen once in a lifetime; 3. almost anytime is worth it, it's great!

One thing about making trips to uberpopular spots like this easer is attitude. Accept the fact there will be crowds. Accept the fact there will be brats. Accept the fact you may have to wait in line. And take the attitude of "it is what it is". It makes these things much more bearable.

It will be cooler in May.
Was there the end of March and there were some school groups, but the chaperones/teachers kept them under control and moving so it was not a problem.
