Friends are going full timing end of the month, we currently use Shaw satellite, friends would like us to get another reciever and they want to use it next winter when they head to Arizona. I'm hesitant, any drawbacks to this?

As long as they don't hook to a phone line it will be OK. I lat an RV friend of mine use mine for a whole summer. We also share the same dish when we camp together.

Its called stacking. No way for the company to know (so long as you dont' connect it to the internet or phone line) but it is against the TOS. People do it to save significant amounts of money on programming since splitting the costs on 3 boxes with full programming makes it cheap.

Unless you get locals from NY or LA they won't get them outside of the spot beam. You can "Move" to those areas at a fake address if you want locals.

We have shaw satellite here at home in Ontario. We got another 75cm dish and took a receiver to Arizona with us. We leave the dish on our lot in Quartzsite, we registered the model number of the receiver as our cottage and the vin number of the trailer with Shaw and told them its in Arizona. Its OK with them. We have even called tech service in the winter to help us tune the receiver in. Have done this for 7 years. I think the extra receiver is 4.99/month. We do not plug into a phone line, but we could to rent a movie. There is no additional charge per month unless you rent a PPV. Have never had a problem, and know others doing this.

another thought, as the OP knows, Shaw gives us all local channels all across Canada, and we can time shift to watch a program we may have missed. Dish and Direct do not have this that I know of. Our local stations for the US are Rochester NY and Detroit Mich. We still get them. Also our west coast locals are Seattle. These are the prime time stations of ABC/NBC/CBS and Fox. If your friends are going to be moving around alot, they will have to set up the dish every time they stop or pay the mega bucks for the shaw dish on the trailer roof. Dona

Thanks all, I was worried if Shaw would terminate our service if caught, they have offered to pay all related cost, then split the cable bill. They're being more than fair, I just don't want to violate communication laws, don't want to be the guy who loses his service, when I'm sitting right here at home doing nothing wrong. Your opnions matter, very educated group on here.

NO way would "I" buy/lease a receiver for my friends to use. If they want to use my dish, then they can buy their own receiver on eBay and get it commissioned on their dime and then hook into my dish. Sorry, but friends don't ask friends to subsidise them, and that is what they are asking you to do.

Depending on how close a friendship you had -- I would ask. I would love to have a group of friends or family get together and purchase 4-5 sets and set them up so that we can all use them and share the cost. $25.00 a month for all channels (except movies and PPV) is pretty cheap.

Any friends out there want to share a Dish connection with a Canuck?
