Well, after we lost Sunshine to cancer we doubted having another dog but we just adopted another Golden Retriever from the Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue in Houston. His name is Banjo but DW likes Bange (Ban Gee) for short. He is 3 years old and was very abused. Right now his is DW's dog since is afraid of men but will come around. He is going to be the new travel partner.

Tis another fine day to serve in and for the glory of the Corps. Every day is a holiday and every meal a feast.

We felt the same way when our last dog had to be put down. Could never replace the one we lost but our house was pretty lonely without a dog to trip over.

I am happy you had better luck at on of the rescue places than we did. Those dogs & cats do need a home. We tried. I could qualify for a 2 million dollar loan easier than qualifying for a rescue dog in Wyoming. LOL. 5 page application, asking very personal things, wanted to inspect my home, and sign me up with a animal behaviorist, the list went on and on.

I bought an Australian Cattle Dog off the internet and had him flown in with a lot less hassle.

Too bad because those dogs and cats do need a home. Our last dog was a stray that had been abused and he turned out great.

Your new dog may be a puppy or you may have selected to adopt your pet from an Animal Welfare association but in either case, the first few days in your dogs new home will be an adventure of examination. He will want to travel around every aspect of your home so you have to decide the rules and restrictions.

Congrats! We also adopted a terrorized dog after the death of our young girl, Tazz. Kodi, our new boy, has been with us 18 months now. He has come a long way. BUT still has issues. Yet, he keeps improving! Gotta admire his ability to move forward beyond his emotional and physical scars.

The shelter thought he was a "lifer" because he was so shut-down, and now they're amazed at just how well he has done!

Congratulations!

It takes a special kind of people to adopt an abused dog.

Be patient (maybe very, very patient) and he will eventually come around. One thing that may help is when you're sitting around watching TV or reading or whatever, gently toss a small treat in his direction now and then. To begin with you may not even want to look in his direction or speak to him when you toss a treat if that little bit of "contact" seems to make him anxious or stressed. The treats will send the message in a very non-threatening way that you're a good thing.

Congratulations on the new family member.

I know the animal rescue groups are trying to protect the dogs but they make it almost impossible for rv'rs to adopt a dog. We went to a rescue event at Petco in Las Vegas last weekend. First they said two different dogs we were interested in would not be suitable for us. Next they said they could not place a dog without a home inspection and since we are from Oregon that would not be possible. In the last 30 years we have had 3 of the most spoiled dogs there ever were and now we can't even adopt one.
