I removed my Heiki skylight as per Northstar's suggestion in order to reseal with Eternabond tape. My question is what do I use on the plastic frame of the skylight to remove the butyl tape which will not harm the plastic frame? I will use mineral spirits on the butyl tape covering the roof. Have read where mineral spirits, acetone is very hard on plastic. Thanks.

PS: I did not have a leak however was advised that the newer Northstars are using Eternabond tape as it was a better sealer so I removed the skylight just to be proactive.

2003 Dodge Laramie SLT 3500 dually diesel 4x2 auto and 2009 Northstar 9.5 Igloo U. Love this combo. Very fuel efficient, lots of room, easy to park and set up.

Curious, I am removing the tape on the seam of my slide outs to replace, and am having trouble getting the glue off the EPDM roof portion of slide. Is it save to use acetone on that part of the roof? What is best chemical for removal? He white top of tape is off, so all that is left is the sticky grey glue.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about getting it perfectly clean, after all, Eternabond is nothing but butyl with a primer.

Just did the vent on my '04 Fleetwood Pioneer, and as with the front seam and refrigerator vent, they had not sealed between the vent and the roof, just over the vent after install. Plastic putty knife in hot Florida sun got the outer sealant up, replaced with lots of Proflex RV under flange, screwed it down till it oozed out real good, then sealed over flange and onto roof.
Go slow, it should come off.

I ran into a company at an RV show called Reliable 1 they make a product called "Spray Cleaner". (pretty original names, huh)I think their website is www.reliableproductsonline.com. I changed a window in our previous coach and the butyl made A MESS!! I tried everything, laquer thinner, mineral spirits, acetone,,,nothing worked that well. I had some of the "Spray Cleaner" in the garage from a show over the winter. It worked AWESOME!! I bought it originally to clean the outside of the coach and awning but it worked great on the butyl as well. It worked so well I went to the RV show the following year just to get another gallon. I think the co is out of NY. No I don't work for them or have any affiliation with the company. But their cleaner worked great for us.
