We just bought a 1987 Fleetwood Jamboree, she is a gem and has been well maintained. We have 2 fuel tanks one original and one we believe is after market. The back (original) tank we believe has an in-tank fuel pump and we do not think it is working. Can we draw fuel through the in-tank pump with an electric frame mounted electrical pump?

Why don't you just drop the tank and replace the pump???

I have a 1995 Class C Ford E350/460 based coach, also with fuel delivery problems (described to me by a knowledgeable mechanic as "Hot Fuel Syndrome").
Why not drop the tank and replace the pump?
Well...
1. It is expensive, labor and parts both.
2. There is no guarantee that replacing the in-tank pump will solve the problem, but adding a high pressure inline pump probably will. Maybe. So "they" say.
3. Doing it myself is not an option. I simply don't want to!

Ford, in their infinite wisdom, built a vehicle for the motorhome market that builds up too much heat underneath, and didn't provide adequate ventilation. the engine and transmission do not overheat, but everything else does.
At least that is what the "experts" tell me.
I think the real "fix" will be to trade it in on a NON-Ford diesel pusher!

Thanks for my daily chuckle.. Way to go.....this is the first time I've seen the old "buy a DP" fix suggested in a long time. And still very helpful, I might add...

Well it worked! Put the in-line fuel pump direct and she started right up. Can get her to the shop and then give her a real go-over. It's summer in Alaska and I can not wait to go camping!

This is the first time I've heard "Too much heat underneath the motorhome", The fuel pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank, If the fuel gets too low too often, The fuel pump is toast. I know there were some issues with early fuel pumps, when they were replaced, no more issues. (usually)

I would be looking for an external Pump to replace the in tank model. Holley makes a great one that should work if the Rig has a Carburator. Holley Red!
