Hi,

We've never been to either state park. We will be visiting that area next spring. Have you camped at these state parks? Is one better for bike riding than the other? Highland Hammock gets great reviews for the park but doesn't say much for the campground. Thanks for your help.

We've camped at Highland hammock but I have to admit that I don't recall anything about the CG. The park itself was great for hiking and I assume biking.

We drove thru Manatee SP (assuming you mean the one south of Tampa) and I was not impressed. But someone I worked with really liked camping there so maybe I missed something.

Manatee Springs further north is a great park. Excellent spring for swimming and snorkeling. Or SCUBA for that matter. Nice CG very near the spring.

Myakka would be, and has been several times, my choice in that area. Great biking, lots of critters, that skywalk that they have. CG is OK but I wouldn't rate it at the top of the list by any means.

Hillsborough River is also a nice park a little further north.

We have camped at Highlands Hammock with a rally group four years in a row. We all enjoy the park and campground. Lots of areas for bike riding. If you go there be sure to take the guided tram ride through the hammock.

Lake Manatee has larger and more private sites.

Highlands Hammock has tighter sites but more trails to ride.

Myakka River is the best overall and they have new, full service (with sewer on each site) campground.

We also have with us two "fur babies". A Basset Hound and a Chihuahua mix. Both are rescue dogs.
