I have a 2005 FSW2800 Weekend Warrior. When operating from a shore cord AC unit and microwave operate fine. When running on the generator the AC and microwave are inoperable. All fuses and breakers are fine. GFIs' and refer work fine on generator. Is this a transfer switch problem? Why would the GFI's and refrigerator work if there is a possible transfer switch problem?

Thanks,

California Haulin'

I think that WW had an Onan 5500 generator. Did you check the breaker on the generator itself? Pop the cover, sort of partially behind the wiring you'll see two breakers, bet one is popped. Breakers are located in the upper left corner.

Yes, It has the Onan 5500 generator and both breakers are open. First thing I checked.

The transfer switch may not be engaging both positive leads from the generator. It sounds like they wired two strong loads on one line and the rest of the weak loads on the other line. Your transfer switch may only be engaging the one hot lead from the generator leaving you with no power to the A/C and microwave.

Did you actually move the breakers on the generator? Physically switch it on and off. Just looking at them doesn't always work.

If you have some 110 power from the generator then the transfer switch is probably working properly. If one of the two generator breakers is off it may be the cause.

Or one of the Phases of the Genset. If the genset is 5500 Watt that's two (2) legs of 120 VAC. It's called single phase but really its two phases.

If thats the case it'll have to go to a genset repair shop.

Dumb question: Did you plug the shore power plug into the gen? I don't think your WW has a transfer switch.

Are your batteries charging from the gen?

x 2, very common... or much less likely you have a bad breaker or even less likely 1 leg is out on your genset.

Switch each breaker off and firmly snap each one back on.
Also make sure the trailer electrical plug is firmly seated in the plug box.Pull it out, verify plug condition, and firmly push it all the way in.

There was another thread on this in the last couple months that went several pages. As happens sooooo many times I don't think the poster EVER came back with the resolution but it might be a worthwhile read.

Fellow RV'ers

So, the shore cord I have is a heavy 50 amp cord with wholly insufficient space to roll it up and plug it into the receptacle when not using shore power. When I ran my generator the 50 amp plug was not fully plugged into the receptacle therefore the micro and AC were not turning on. I pulled the line out of the box and plugged it in and all is well! I think I am going to shorten my cord since I always have to fight the cord when stowing it for the road. Oh ya, no transfer switch on the coach. Thank you all.
