We are thinking of dry camping but our Direct TVs shut down when we run the generator, they only seem to work plugged in to 30/40 amps. Can you run two flat screen TVs on Direct TV directly off the generator and if so, how?

I have never had a problem running mine from a generator or inverter. You might try running it from a inverter at home, and see if it might be a frequency problem. Your generator might be running a few RPM to fast or slow, and causing the frequency to change from 60 Hz to perhaps 58 or 62?

That is the only problem I can think of. A 300 watt inverter should run the direct TV receiver, it will only use about 20 watts, and leave the rest to run the TV set. You can listen to the TV in silence, especially if you have a couple of solar panels to power the batteries and inverter.

It could be your gens output is out of spec: voltage, frequency or wave form type.

Just a wild guess here but what happened to us was, when the air conditioner cycled the surge would reset our sat box causing it to go through the signal search and set up again. We now use precautions to make sure we don't have that issue.

You have a problem with your coach electrical somewhwere. Your DirecTv should work fine on the generator and even on an inverter. Check to make sure that the circuit breaker(s) on your generator aren't tripped. You don't say what coach you have or what generator you have.

Hi All.

Same here, no problems what so ever using our DirecTV while Boondocking. We can and usually do use an Inverter. But we have also used or Motorhomes 5.5 Built-In Generator. Also we have used ou EU2000i Honda/s wiht no problems either.

You must be doing something wrong. How many Hz's are your Generator putting out ?. Time to get out the old Multi-Meter and start doing some checking.

Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

Hi all,

What ever generator you do buy, avoid Boliy. Mine wont' start at 30 F. That makes it an expensive piece of metal and plastic for 1/2 the year for me.

IF you have a INVERTER you can run it off your batteries. Google 12volt side of life And read and learn. JMO

An inverter uses the battery power to produce 120V AC which your equipment needs. Without an inverter your TV will only run on the gen or shore power.
