If it wasn't closed securely, vacuum often sill literally "suck" the vent open and often it can be destroyed when traveling in that position. could also just be UV rays made it brittle and it simply shattered. In either case it's time to replace it.

Just think about what the sun does to your skin.

Just upgraded to a TT from a PUP that I bought new in 95. When I parted ways with it, it still had the OEM vent cover on it. Although it was stored inside, that to me, is a long life span for one of those things. The pup also still had its original caulking and sealant on the roof.

All those years and a few trips in horrendous storms and she never leaked once.

I guess theres lots to be said about inside storage if you can swing it. Thats why I dont understand why RV covers are so bad.

My 95 jayco still has the original covers but I am going to order replacements as soon as possible. mine has never been stored inside. I guess they dont make things like they use to. Wills250psd

Last summer I was on the roof of my RV taking the cover off and noticed that the guy next to me had no cover on one of his vents. It was laying off to the side on the ground. I told the lady at the desk so she could call him and let him know he had a open "hole" on his roof. I noticed it was replaced a few weeks later.

Camco makes a complete line of lid replacements for the major brands...for Exlir, Ventline and Jensen.

Made from polycarbonate, they are resistant to UV damage, virtually unbreakable, impact resistent and easy to DIY install. Around $15.00.

My vent covers are about 5 yrs old now and still looking good. I'm currently parked in the hot Tucson sun, which is no doubt pushing the limit. Maybe I have those UV resistant ones? Time will tell...

On our Class C we had two identical vent covers. I replaced the one over the bathroom twice. The one over the living area held up fine. Go figure.

Good info, especially for me. I keep forgetting to close the lid when I head home or to the next campground. I'm going to order a spare to keep in the storage compartment.
