Use the Roadmaster EvenBrake. Never a problem. Tow a Saturn Vue. Yesterday all 4 tires locked up. Green fuse pulled. Always worked before. First my dash sensor went off, telling me to charge battery in Vue. Said was 12.7 volts. What's wrong with that???

Then doing 60, started to slow gently and all 4 on the toad locked up. what a smoke screen. "Were" new tires, and in 100 feet wore a flat spot almost to tire wear bear. Now, $500 more for new tires.

Had battery checked, fine.

Any ideas?

Possible problem with the break-away setup on the EvenBrake (assuming you have that connected)?

These kind of things seem to happen. I have personally spoke to 3 people that this has happened to with toad braking.

That's one of the reasons I like the Ready Brake...no electronics, just simple cable that runs from the lever on the Ready Brake receiver to the brake pedal.
K.I.S.S. works best for me.

I think there was a disturbance in the matrix yesterday. I also have the Even Brake system. Driving home yesterday, the monitor told me to stop asap because the toad was stuck in "brake" position. I had visions of burning rubber and sparking metal. Pulled over, got out, checked it out...no problem. Got in, kept going, arrived home without problems. Go figger.

OK.. so what type of service do you do to the connectors on the front of the toad such as the breakaway switch to make sure all are functioning properly?

The first time I used my EvenBrake system I received "Braking" messages on the coach monitor. At that time I attributed the problem to user error as I thought somehow I wasn't installing the EvenBrake in the car properly. Many months later I again began to receive inconsistant braking warnings when using the system. I eventually experienced the cruise control on my toad (2008 Ford Tauraus X) sometimes disengaging without warning while driving on the highway. The anti-skid sytem light eventually illuminated indicating a fault. To make a long story short, the problem was with the brake switch in my toad and not the Even Brake unit.

Breakaway switches are the Achilles Heel for both electronic and mechanical supplemental brakes. They are all cheaply constructed, single-point-of-failure mechanisms. As such, breakaways switches fail many times more often (probably something like 100x to 10,000x) than the towing systems they are supposed to protect.

I built a redundant signalling system on my toad. My Blue Ox mechanical cable breakaway switch is hooked in parallel to a relay connected to my 6 pin trailer connector. On my system, the breakaway switch must be tripped AND the trailer electrical connection must be broken for the emergency brake to engage.

I personally believe in towing very light toads, and not even hooking up the breaks. By light I mean, standard Toyota Yaris etc.

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.
