Coming back from our trip to Myrtle Beach, I thought I had broken the strings in one of our day/night shades.

Having a look at it this past weekend, I didn't break any strings, looks like I just lifted too hard and the strings somehow came off the little spindle on the bottom of both sides.

Fiddling with it for a couple of hours, for the life of me I couldn't figure out which strings I need to wrap around the spindles. Is there anyone or a website out there that can give me a little guidance as to which strings to work with?

Loosen the screw and turn the spindle to snug up the strings equal on both sides then tighten the screw and test the shades, if they stay up your good if not tighten them a little more. There is a spring at the top and its about 8" long that needs the tension. I just finished restringing mine.

If you have to re-attach the spindle to the cord....what I've done is go buy a metal sewing bobin at Walmart to replace the plastic one....it's much stronger. Good luck.....

Any good rv supply store or dealer will have the plastic spools. I keep a couple of spares in unit so I will not need them.LOL They are very cheap to buy so you don't have to use a substitute.

Thanks all. Just one on my list of tedious little projects to complete in the next month or so.

Where do you get Just the spools, I've looked at several places, no one sells just the spools, everyone wants to sell you a rebuild kit, strings, spools, screws, all I need is one little plastic spool.

You can find the shade hold down here. also available at good RV parts shops.

This is spools and screws only, no strings attached.
