We finally did it !! we went camping for the frist time ever at KOA at Starve Rock IL.we set up the TT and every thing was going well.Till the labradoodle escaped from the TT. I had to chase him all over the CG what I mess he still is a pup. there was a huski next to us and thank God he was tied up. my goofy dog tried to play with him but they were both trying to fight each other.and another person got a hold of the collar and waited for me to get my dog.Thank God everyone took it in stride and was Okay about it. I later went back to apoligize to evry one at the CG. How embarrising this was. I told the wife to please the dog home. Has anyone ever had a crazy pet experience like this?

Most, if not all campgrounds require any dogs to be leashed at all times, monitored, not left alone at campsites, cleaned up after, etc. I'm glad all worked out for you, but please remember next time, and a good time will be had by all and their pets, including yours! Don't let it worry you. Welcome, and wish you many great times camping!

My sister and husband have a Labradoodle and it has never got past that stage, does not listen to anyone. Not a vicious dog at all but annoying. When we go there and let our dog out theirs will chase ours around and when our dog tires of it then she goes under the MH where the bigger dog can't get to. We don't like the Labradoodle in the MH as she sheds so bad and we will have hair everywhere..... I think I much preferred their old Labrador which was really a well behaved dog.

Sometimes it is best to leave the dog(s) at home. I wish more people would do this.

We happened to stay for a weekend at one of our favorite RV Resorts at the same time there was a national dog show in town. Of course a lot of the show dog owners were staying in the campground. It was a constant parade of beautiful dogs by our campsite all weekend long.

The two dogs we had at the time got real excited everytime they see a dog come near our site. They tended to run to the length of the chains we hook them to and then bark at the dog. I would tell them to be quiet and they would shut up and then go lay down and wait for the next dog.

Our older dog ran out after one of the dogs that was coming towards the site. When she got to the end of the chain she kept going. The chain broke. The dog she was running towards was obviously a champion Akita just from the look of it. The dog had just been groomed and was probably being walked just before being transported to the show. I went chasing after my dog and the owner of the Akita got between his dog and mine. He kick my dog to keep her away from his. That's when I arrived, I grabbed her(my dog). I explained and showed him the chain had broken. I apologized for my dog's charge. The look the Akita owner gave, made me laugh. He literally looked down his nose at me as if I was some sort of lower class person who had overstepped his position in life. He didn't say a word, turned his head and strutted away. He actually strutted.

I felt like I was a character in one of those Little Rascal episodes who had a run in with rich folks.

The funny thing is my dog was pure bred from champion parents and had won several dog shows in the past. She was considered a perfect example of the breed standards. I just didn't have time to keep showing her.

And you found this to be funny and an acceptable conduct in a CG? AND allowed your dogs to let it happen over and over again?

No, I'd say this was a dog owner who didn't want his dog hurt or killed by yours and had every right to be upset. I think you are very lucky the owner just walked away.

And many wonder and complain why CG's do not allow dogs to be chained up outside RV's.

After we adopted our 10# mix breed, we took the mh to an outlet mall, so we could stay for a few hours & leave him in air conditioned comfort. As we were exiting, He escaped & started running around the parking lot. Luckily, it was really early & not crowded. When we chased him, he thought it was great fun. The good part was, several strangers stopped to help & joined in the chase. There are a lot of great people out there. We finally caught him, & put him in the mh. It took me 30 minutes to compose myself.

Someone that would kick a dog is not a very nice person, and truly is NOT a dog lover. Just in the business for prestige and to make money it seems. Chains break, things happen, lighten up. I once saw a dog chew thru his leash. We as pet owners have to watch our pets that's true, but every once in a while things can happen. Noone should look down their nose at anybody. Noone is better than anyone else. Sorry that you had to experience this.

Let's look at this from the other dog owner's point of view.

You've arrived (travel time and money spent) at a campground where you will be staying for an event (entry fees spent) where you will be showing your dog (money and time spent getting ready to show). A loose dog comes charging at yours, dragging a broken chain, VERY intent of getting to your dog. You cannot tell what this charging dog will do to your dog once it gets there. Your first reaction is to protect your dog, which is the focus of this trip. If your dog gets injured and is lame the dog may not be able to be shown.

What would your attitude be towards the owner of such a loose dog once they arrive to collect their dog?

If an unknown dog dragging a broken chain is charging towards my dog I WILL protect my dog. I love my dogs more than loose dogs charging mine. Or perhaps you'd prefer that I dropped my dog's leash and let my dog decide how best to protect itself against the charging dog?

How do well socialized dogs that don't know one another typically meet&greet? Does it involve one charging towards another?

All of my experiences of my leashed dogs being charged by a loose dog are proceeded by the owner of the loose dog yelling "he's friendly" followed by my leashed dog getting jumped by the loose dog. I'm pack leader and it's my job to protect the pack.
