My Travel Trailer has a 30 amp electrical service, and I always believed I would never need a 30 to 50 amp plug adapter because all the campgrounds I stay in would probably always have a 30 amp receptacle.
Well Easter weekend I camped in a State Park and as predicted, they did have a 30 amp receptacle. However, the circuit breaker had been flipped on & off so many times over the years it could no longer handle 30 amps.
I could run the A/C, but if I turned on the water heater, microwave or ice machine it would trip. I didn’t put a meter on it, but It seemed as though in could only handle about 20 amps instead of 30.
So I’m thinking, if I report the problem to the Park Ranger I don’t know how long it will take for them to come and swap out the breaker. I’m sure they would need to shut power off to other sites as well to fix the problem. That’s if a maintenance person was even available. I also didn’t want to pack up and move to another site, even if one was available.
Oooooh how I wished I had a 30 to 50 amp adapter. I could have plugged into the 50 amp receptacle and still have all the power I needed.
We made it through the weekend by plugging an extension cord into the 15/20 amp receptacle to run the ice machine, and used propane only for the water heater. We turned off the A/C when we needed to use the microwave.
So I recommend those of you who have a 30 amp service to buy an adapter if you don’t already have one.

I have one for that very same reason. I know you will have one too before too long.

When we had our 26' 30 amp TT years ago, I carried every power adapter available both male & female and sooner or later over the years needed every one of'em.
This past week, for the first time in decades of RV'ing, we needed two 20' sewer hose extensions to attach to our usual 20' everyday sewer hose to reach the CG sewer connection. Guess who only had one 20' sewer hose extension??? Who'd a thought we'd ever need two 20' sewer hose extensions????
Guess who now has two 20' sewer hose extensions???
Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!

I have one because the surge protector/low voltage I found was 50a. So I plug my surge guard in with the 50-30a adaptor and it's smooth sailing. Covered on both ends. :-)

Yep. Our TT is new and we've only been out with it twice but after seeing threads like this I went ahead and bought the 50 amp and 20 amp converters. Just in case!

I always plug into the 50amp supply. Usually it has been used less so my plug fits better.

When this happens...even if you have a 50 to 30 amp adapter...
PLEASE let the campground manager know. If they are not advised...you're only passing the problem on to your fellow campers.
I carry my adapter, but if there is any problem with a campsite...I always report the problem promptly. Hopefully, they will look at their schedule...and plan to fix it before the next guest arrives.

Crickeydog, Your suppose to use the sewer connection on your campsite, not your neighbors. ;-) Had to laugh, you would have had sewer hose with definitely a low spot. Where's Robin Williams when you need him and his campground experts?

I bought my 30 to 50 Amp adapter last week at a Walmart. I have a spare fresh water hose just incase, now I am waiting to buy a spare 30 Amp power cord. I know that one day I will need it. I can always hope I am near a Wally World.
