Thank you to all who gave sound advice... that's what we were looking for. It is good to hear there are active groups out there RVing and if you're not, we respect anyone who's out there living their dream; we will be happy to share dinner, life stories and a campfire with you as well as a trail run or bike ride with those who are.
And rfryer... you sound like our kind of guy!! Age is relative...we hope to meet anyone that can put us to shame because we love the challenge!

I agree that the toy hauler crowd will likely get you the closest to hanging out with people with like interests. We bring our Mt bikes in addition to the RZR everywhere we go. If you end up getting one, I would suggest Googling City of Rocks in Idaho. World class rock climbing, right in the camp site, the rock is great to climb and the people are great. We go down there at least three times a year.

Here's a thought: If you're hanging around the campground, you're going to see the other people hanging around the campground. The people out doing stuff are out doing stuff.
You might consider getting into backpacking versus RVing. Like backpacking in state forests. In my mind, this is where you will find people kayaking w/ their backpacks, then setting up camp overnight, then kayaking again in morning, etc.
I think there is a huge variety of people who have rvs. We are a young family and I plan on using the rv at track days because of my young son. We didn't mind parking in the garage or in the elements before he came along but now, he can't endure extremes not should we keep him in the garage with gasoline and loud bikes. I got the rv for us, to meet the needs of our family.

As many others have suggested use your RV to do the things you like to do. We enjoy many of the same activities as you do. We have used our RV as a base camp to climb 14 er's in Colorado and kayak in the UP of Michigan. We spend part of the winter in the RGV of TX, and our 55+ park has a great pool to swim laps, tennis courts, a softball team, bicycle group, motorcycle group and the list goes on. I think you will fit in just fine. Enjoy!

Whoa. Lots of defensive folks chiming in on this thread.
OP, there are a multitude of RV groups & organizations nationally (US) with more specific focuses than solely RVing. Lots of folks have RVs as a secondary focus, using their RVs as a base camp while engaging in other more active / rigorous sports, activities, adventures.
Search for them, they're out there.
