I'm running AC outlets from an inverter. Understood. Question remains.

If I understand correctly -
You put the inverter close to the battery, then you run 120v wire from inverter to the location of the plugs.

#6 wire seems small. What is the rating of the inverter you are installing?
Make and model of inverter will help.
If it is the 300 watt unit, it requires a 100 amp feed at 12 volts DC. This unit will not run much more then a computer, printer and maybe a couple cell phone chargers.

Morningstar SureSine 300. 6 is what the install manual calls for. I have the inline 100 amp fuse.
I've checked the usage of my devices already. 300w is all I need.

DiscoChicken,
Where are you going to install your outlet that will be connected directly from the inverter?

I wired mine into the system because the inverter only had two outlets and I had about 5 things plugged in with a jumble of cords.
Now the TV, dvd, laptop, ipod, phone, drill can all run/charge in their own place out of the way.

Allow me to translate:
Why are you running new wire to the outlets rather than wiring the inverter to the panel?
Answer: Because he probably wants to have independent outlets so as to not have to worry about backfeeding the rest of the panel with inverter power.

I mounted my 300w inverter behind the power distribution panel.
12v connected to the main battery feed. That would be the #6 in your case.
I then connected the 120v power to the existing outlets with a transfer switch. I used two switches to power both convenience circuits.

Touch the romote power button and instant power for the toys.
No pulling wire, no new outlets.

He is probably using one dedicated outlet to the small inverter. He cannot operate much load.
