Title pretty well covers my questions. Wondering if the Barker 3500 24'' is needed over a 18''. Looks to be about 80-90$ more for the 24''
Also any big pluses over the Barker and Atwood?

Atwood and Barker both offer quality power jacks so there may not be much advantage one over the other. I have a Barker 3500 and the 18" stroke works fine for us, but we do use a tongue jack stand we purchased from CW that gives us an extra 6" or so. Good idea to get one of the higher capacity power jacks for the extra torque needed to raise the tow vehicle when installing/removing WD bars.

If you go off the beaten path often the bigger travel will come in to play with camping on uneven land.

Is their an issue with clearance? Or do they retract the same height?

You do not need the extra height. All you need do is carry a block of wood that is 6 inches high. If you are in an area that has a lot of slope, then place the wood block under the jack pole before jacking.
Both jacks retract all the way........ no clearance problems with either length.

One thing the Barker allows you to do is rotate the motor to give you more clearance when opening the tailgate. Comes in handy if you can't get the tailgate open all the way and it hits the motor.
I've always had a Barker with the 18" lift, but with the new trailer sitting higher and a higher truck I put on a Barker VIP 3500 with a 24" lift. The only thing you really notice is that the motor sits 6" higher. Plenty of tailgate clearance now and no need to rotate the motor.
PM me if you're interested in an unused Atwood still in the box...

Thanx all. I ordered a Barker 3500 24 " from Amazon along with a pair of x checks, and landing gear drill adapter for $360 shipped.
