Usually more to it than meets the eye.

And here is another article where it says the NPS is working with the locals:http://outerbanksreport.com/2010/06/02/ramp-45-closes-due-to-vandalism/

Both of those links go to the same article. I don't have any objection to the NPS shutting down access to a stretch of beach if birds are actively nesting on that particular beach.

But this is another case of group punishment. Maybe one out of 202 groups of campers was involved in this but they punish all 202 and everyone who comes after this date. Catch the violators, punish them and publicize the punishment.

I did see an article that NPS was working with the public, after they issued a midnight regulation that caused such an outrage that they were forced to back down. The fight over Biscayne has been going on over ten years apparently.

The coral reefs of Biscayne and Florida Keys are part of the 150-mile long Florida Reef Tract… The coral reef system of the Florida Keys is North America‘s only living coral barrier reef and it is third longest coral barrier reef in the world…

There are at least 20 reported vessel (recreational and commercial) groundings a year into the parks coral reefs that causes damage that takes years maybe decades to heal or repair if it can be at all… who knows how many groundings go unreported… it’s a busy park with hundreds of thousands of visitors that requires regulation and monitoring…

If nothing were done the same people would be the one criticizing them for allowing this to continue…

I hope someone is wise enough it protect the park for us and for our grandchildren, and I don’t care what ridiculous name you give them… environmentalist were responsible for creating Biscayne and have been good stewards of it…

I also like clean air to breath and clean water to drink…

The thread started as a troll, but the truth never hurts as bad…

The thread did not start out as a troll. The thread started by someone, me, who is concerned about the encroachment of government into our lives. And I have no objection to banning boats over the reef. That area could be buoyed off as a no-go area.

I also have no objection to reasonable limits on fishing. Fishing in this country is a perfect example of the failure of the commons. No one owns the fish therefore no one worries about protecting the resource. There is no question that fishing needs to be controlled by the use of public input in the process. The state of Florida did this with scalloping on the west coast (banned it altogether) and after several years the scallops recovered.

If you intent was good and not a troll, I apologize to you sir…

But when using some sources it would be prudent to fact check the content first before spreading that someone’s agenda based claims…

We treasure our natural resources but there are those who want to privatize them and make a buck or close down access to save money.
Then there are those who are idealists and like a pristine environment for them. It is of no value to the majority of us if we can't access it.
Because we are slower than when we were 18 or infirm..tough cookies you can't access them?
A pox, on the Exclusionists and the Pprivatizers. Our National Treasures belong to the people we demand access to them.
Give this message to those locking us out.
They don't hear you because no one or not enough of us is shouting down their agendas.
America is getting where it is because we are not stopping them from using and abusing us.
A lot of people are suffering from "indigestion" because they can't tolerate what is happening but then they aren't doing anything about it.

While I agree we need to protect wildlife, we already have National Wildlife Refuges. Teddy Roosevelt pushed to set aside lands for
future generations that include many of today's National Parks. But Roosevelt believed that these lands should be available for multiple uses.He hunted and fished. He rode horses and used automobiles in our National Parks. You may be able to make a case for limited use of motorized vehicles, but horses, kites, swimmers?
