Would like an answer as to what is the newest Grand Cherokee or Limited that can be towed 4 down.I know the ones with the transfer cases will work by putting the tranfer case in neutral and the tranny in park. Will any of the others work without adding any dis-connects,etc.

Thanks,
Larry

depends. some can be modified, some can't and have to be trailered. best bet is to check the owner's manuals (available free online) or check with REMCO

No! it must be a 4 x 4 with a two speed TC. This means the upgraded TC. These have an electric Neutral switch included.

We tow our 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland 4 down with no problem. There is no steering wheel lock, so no key needs to be left in ignition. With engine off and key on, put transmission in neutral, then push the transfer case neutral button. The transfer case shifts to neutral an then start the engine, shift to reverse to check that T-case is in neutral. Turn off engine and place transmission in park and remove the key. Release the parking brake and head down the road.

It really is easy.

According to our owners manual, only the onex with the transfer case (Quadra trak II / Quadra drive II) can be towed 4 down.

There are two models of the new Grand Cherokee. One has a drive trane that can be towed 4 down and the other does not. Just had this same discussion with several jeep salesmen. After getting the books out they all learned the difference. I have forgotten the mode;, but the one you can tow has a round knob switch on the dash you switch to neutral, then put the transmission to "park" and you are ready to go.

basic rule of thumb...the jeep can be flat towed if the jeep has a neutral position on the txfr case and the driver can shift the txfr case into that neutral position. all jeeps that can be flat towed can be flat towed without any time, mileage or speed restrictions.

I was checking the grand cherokee about a month ago, and I was surprised that some can be towed and some can not be towed. So when checking them out you have to ask and make sure before you buy one that might not be towable.

do not take the sales critter's word for it...demand to see the owner's manual for the specific vehicle. many sales people have no clue one way or the other, many more assume any vehicle can be towed and a few will say anything to make a sale.
