Ok I know I'm cheap but for I refuse to pay $130+ for a Gen-turi Generator Exhaust System. I made mine from 3" dryer vent pipe and then found a top cap and drilled the spot weld out to use it at the open space from the elbow to the pipe.. Will prime and paint it later..all was baught at Lowes for a total of $18.94 ...

Looks Good. Could you post a close up picture of how you connected the top cap to the elbow to get the gap?

Nice job... But I would be very careful in use, I had a Gen-turi and the plastic pipe does not get as hot. I would think you need to exercise caution after you use it. It is possible for the metal pipe to really heat up.

Here is the cap that I used for the open space.. I turned it upside down and drilled out the spot weld and then used the tabs as the brace to connect to the elbow.. My elbow was a 1" electric bend and I used a 1" screw clamp connector..Since I had all ready drilled the tabs I just marked the holes on the elbow and pop rivet it together..

There are lots of DIY ways of doing it. The only thing to be sure of no matter how you build it is the tube does not get hot enough to burn some unsuspecting child that might touch it. Shoot the tube with a infared heat gun after the generator has worked hard for a little while not just run with no load.

Just curious why the top hat? The whole point is to exhaust as high as possible. I'd think the top hat would create exhaust turbulence on the roof and allow it to settle and spill back over the sides?
