Time to ask for advice. We are planning on going to the Alburquerque Balloon Festival this year. (God willing and the creeks don't rise).
We have not yet visited Colorado or Utah and would like to take an extra two weeks or so to visit there. What should our must see or do list look like. We like to set up somewhere and go on day trips.

I'd say Colorado Springs, garden of the Gods, pikes peak, just to name a couple. But I like Durango also. You can't go to wrong either side.

I am sorry I can't give you anything specific, there is nowhere in that part of America that you won't be awestruck. Royal Gorge, Taos, Sante Fe, Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly, Bryce, Zion, etc..

If not already done, a priority would be to secure your ALBQ reservations as 800,000 visitors have the same thought of attendance.

We have had our Balloon Fest reservations since November. Have until July 14 for final go no go decision with only a $10 cancelation fee. Just want to see some more of the country.

If you're a railfan, you've got 2 great trains to ride. Silverton Train in Durango and the Cumbres and Toltec in Chama NM and runs to Antonito CO. Don't forget Mesa Verde in CO, Monument Valley and Painted Desert in AZ and Santa Fe in NM. LOTS of stuff to do.

We have been to the Balloon Fiesta twice now. May go again next year. First time we went with an owners club. Second time we went on our own. No reservations.

The place to stay is in the huge drycamping area S of Alameda Blvd. The first weekend is really busy however by Sunday you can roll right in, no reservations. By Monday prime spots near the shuttle stops have opened up. There is a landing zone right in the midst of the CG. No need to drive anywhere. No need to get up early to deal with traffic going to the field.

Cripple Creek...in June I think it is they have old times days where people dress up like old gold miners. Also, Seven Falls (at night with lights!), rodeo hall of fame, lots of rodeos nearby too. I loved Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge, Pikes Peak too.

If you're a shooter, the NRA Whittington Center is just outside Raton NM.
