Does anyone have experience with broadband to go? We are looking into buying a pay-as-you-go plan to use when we travel and Best Buy offers only two carriers, Virgin Mobile and Verison.
Virgin Mobile offers a moble hot spot, Verison only plug in. We are planning an extended trip out west this spring/summer. We are leaving in three weeks. Our home is in Georgia, and we would be traveling the Eastern states from Florida to Ohio to New England most other times. Don't know which would give us the best coverage for our needs. Also don't know anything about Virgin Mobile, so, if anyone has experience with one or both of these carriers, I'd appreciate your advice.

I use it on occasion.. Now things may have changed since I got my adapter last year but some things did not
3G (But then there are nor real 4-G networks yet or so I'm told Just 4G-LTE which is ... Not 4G) This may have changed since I last researched.
Coverage is not as good as say Verizion (This I checked last week, which by the way is why I was not on line a week ago).
But if you have a signal it's good.
10 bucks gets you 100/meg for a week
20 like half a gig and a month to use it
50 "Unlimited" but after something like 2.5 Gig (read fine print) they throttle you.
I use about a quarter gig a week when I conserve, so in the winter when I spend 2 weeks in a park with great Wi-Fi and a week out,,, I use the 20 dollar plan.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

We just got cell phones with werizon, and for $20 a month we added the mobile wifi called mifi. It can be turned on and off one month at a time without extending your contract. We just used it the past few weeks in Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisc with good results. Not perfect, but for checking emails, web surfing, banking etc, good enough. Probably not god for video and lots of pics.

I have virgin mobile wifi.Got it at wally world for $147,unlimited plan for me is $40/month (had it for last 3 years)and it works from FL to Cali to WI and PA.Actually works where my at&t phone will not.

I might add.... If you buy "Top off cards" instead of charging the fee to your cell phone.
Wal-mart cahages 19.88 for a 20 dollar card. So you save 12 cents!!!!!
A good deal if you are already in the store.

It does not work well in South Texas. I thought that was the answer last year. Though the coverage map said I was in a good coverage area it seldom worked and when it did it was very slow and with a weak signal. I had 14 days to return the hotspot to Best Buy. I did that on the 13th day and only had acceptable service for maybe one day.
I now use a Verizon hotspot via Galaxy Tab and it works great even though only a 3G signal. Works everywhere that I have been.

A big thank you to all who offered advice on the broadband to go. We don't have a smart phone with a data plan. I guess we are still in the dark ages. We will be using it with a laptop. Still not sure which carrier to choose, but the posts here have given me food for thought.

Mobile broadband packages allow us to access the internet anywhere with mobile broadband reception by simply plugging a small device called a dongle into the laptop.
I've no house in the city, just a camping tent in the wild.

We have utilized Verizon Broad Band for 5 years from the Florida Keys to Alaska. For the most part it has been satisfactory. It is line of sight, the antennas must see each other so in so very remote spots reception is spotty sometimes. Along most well traveled roads reception is excellent. We use a Wilsons Truckers cell phone Antenna which is a big help. Verizon seems to have the most coverage.
