I can't remember the last time I locked any of my basement storage in a campground. I do lock them when on BLM land during the January bash in Quartzsite.
I feel that it would cost more to repair a door that was pryed open than the worth of items behind it.

Quote: Why do we need to lock the outside shower?
That's one I never COULD figure out. They put storage compartment locks that are ALL keyed alike so anybody can unlock it for you but have a specific key for the shower door. I suspect is was decided by the same guy who came up with the "forced option" concept

I never lock any of my compartments. It would be so easy to just pry one open and there's nothing inside that would be worth as much as the damage they would do.

Depending on the shower door, I like using a Combi-Cam Ultra. It can stay unlocked, and the key is mainly in case someone decided to reset the combo. Barring that, I'd replace it with an automotive grade lock, since the keys are better at not breaking than the CH751s.

Or how about a friend opening the valves and turning off the shower head?

The reason the lock is there is 1) to prevent it from unlatching in transit and 2) the above...much easier for someone to come along and open it and turn it on to be a menace if there is no lock.

On our first trip out with our TT my DH looked in the rear-view mirror and noticed something dragging along..yes it was our outside shower-head bouncing down the highway. It was quite a sight..looked almost alive! Not sure how far it bounced along before he noted it but we pulled over and to our amazement there was some road dirt on it but otherwise it was in good shape! The lock, on the other hand decided it didn't want to lock anymore, so we needed to replace it. We now make sure the lock is working before we take off.

Great Idea!! Adding that to my list!
Mine has a lock as well (top center) but its the only way to keep it closed as there are no other latches.

remember that many insurance policies require a forced entry before they will pay for loss of your items.....
that broken latch or pry mark may be valuable when it comes time to make a claim.
this probably doesn't apply to the shower door
