Try early or late season camping and a lot of parks seem more remote.

If it's nice and on the lake, it will probably be busy if RV's can get to it.

We're at Portage Lake campground, in the Waterloo Recreation Area (exit 150 on I-94)right on the lake and there are 8 RVs in 150 spaces. That should be about a 2 1/2 hour drive from you.

Whoa, that's only an hour.. we're in Dearborn.. now that's too close

We used to mountain bike in these recreation areas, like Kensington and Island Lake... I never realized there were actual camp sites

Does it get very busy... I mean, are early reservations needed?
Is it a 'local' weekend party spot?

Last year, we spent an evening at Munising City Tourist Park and were camped right on the water and they have full hook ups. If you're looking for a little more rustic camping we spent some time at the Hurricane River campground in the Picture Rocks National Lakeshore. We weren't right on the water but very secluded and a very short walk to sit on the shore of Lake Superior and watch the sun set. We had an spectacular time there.

Kensington and Island Lake are Merto Parks. Waterloo is a DNR recreation area. It has rustic and developed camp sites, also rustic cabins. It is an alcohol free zone. (don't drink in the open or party load.)

One of my favorites. 15 miles from work so I can camp without vacation days but still get the calm relax camping feeling in the evening. Gets busy on the weekends but should be able to get a site easy until closer to Memorial day. Some sites have paved pads and 50amp. Most are grass and 30 amp. Many with a view of the lake through the trees nice places to walk. Randu
