2007 Pace Arrow-

How have others mounted solar panels? These will not be on a tilt frame.

I have 2 panels and z brackets to use for mounting to roof.

What is under the rubber?

Thanks

Just picked up a 2nd panel myself. I don't mess with the roof at all, I let the pros handle it. Small cost for a little piece of mind.

Hi,

Usually thin luan plywood. Try to get the diagram of the roof support "beams" or "trusses" from the manufacturer. (I'm not sure of the correct term).

This may not apply to you, but for owners of fiberglass roofs (that have not been painted) you can use very high adhesion tape for mounting and avoid putting holes in your roof. The tape isn't cheap, but you don't need much of it. It's used on jet airplanes to hold items onto the plane's aluminum skin.

If your roof has been painted the adhesion is only as good as the paint's bond to the gelcoat. But if unpainted the gelcoat is part of the f/g roof and you can use the tape.

I'm about to order 4 solar panels and will be mounting them this way. I couldn't believe it when I was told about it but many users have assured me that it works.

I'd personally go with Helimech's suggestion. We had our solar panels installed for us when we got them. It definitely added to the cost. But it was worth it. No problems with it yet so far.

Here is the size of my 2 panels 77.01 x 39.13 x 1.97. Does this make any difference how they are mounted.

The reseller told me to mount to roof framing. Not sure it will match up so looking for options.
