Fires are no problem at OL, but they do not sell firewood there. They dont sell beer either. You can obtain both at the convenience store right across the street. The 3000 and 4000 sections do have shaded sites, but aways from the surf. 3000 and 4000 sections are quiet as they are away from the influx of cruising golf carts. I like to be part of the influx.

A lot depends on what you want to do while there. I've stayed at OL and thought it was fine, but I was there during the off season and had a concrete pad in section K. I was there for golf.
The beach is quite a bit wider in North Myrtle Beach if that's your thing. Also Fishing Charters go out from there. Myrtle Beach Travel Park is on the beach in NMB, but they lock the gates from midnight to 7 AM. If you come back after midnight, you have to park your car and walk in. I don't like that restriction. You might want to check out Willow Tree.. Its not on the beach, but located in Longs, SC. They have large sites and some with your own hot tub. Also a large fishing lake with a beach to catch the rays.

Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

Well we have reservations for the 7/7/13 @ site 4105 how wide are the lanes are they easy to back in or are they drive thru sites?

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Don

I called OL back to pay for the site and asked them about fires at the campsite. I was told that yes they do allow fires at your site but do not provide fire rings. Not an issue for us as we use an old washer tub for our fire. So all I need to do is get a SC fishing permit hope they sell 1 week permits and we can have fresh fish on the grill !

Can't wait for July to come!!!!!

We're at Ocean Lakes now. I checked out site 4105. It's in the grass section, a good distance from the ocean, easy to get into (all pull thrus here) and there is a short/small tree on the driver's side.

Anyone have a favorite charter boat, not looking for a party/bum boat but a private character. Have been poking around and have a few calls in but would love to hear from someone that has been out or maybe lives down around there.

Cool thanks Bill, I looked at the site map and figured a cart was most definitely going to be must. Are you going to fish? I hear they are killing the reds and halibut off the jetties and piers. A 14 day permit is only $11; I know where I'm going to spend most of my time.

We prefer the sites in the 3000 & 4000 section during the busy times. It tends to be quieter at night and not as windy for fires and the awning. Have fun! We always do!

To Perrysburg Dodgeboy: I don't fish. There are always guys fishing in the surf at the beach. The campground has several lakes that you can fish in if you like to do that; no license required for the lakes in the campground.
