Honestly - there are parts of all of them (MBTP, OL, PL and LW) that we LOVE and other parts we don't like. It is usually a tough decision when we decide to go. It's like coke and pepsi...you love one or hate the other or are somewhere in between. If you have never been to any of them, you will be pleasantly surprised and like which ever one you choose. But if you don't like crowds, go to the state park. I consider the resort campgrounds basically a place to park my rolling condo next to someone else's and enjoy the amenities.

Hey TerryAllen - we actually prefer the south end near Lakewood if all goes smooth sites 130 and 104 for Memoria Day.

The South end is good with a few extra perks, like a road that goes out to the entrance, and easier acess to the pool, and Lazy river. The only reason we wanted the North end, Is because of the Large Empty beach between PL, and the State Park. Lot's of good shells there, and no people, and it makes a shorter walk to the State park pier IF you want to go.

Other than that. All of the beach sites are good.

We know quite a few people in real life who don't like OL.

And that's okay. Really, it is.

We prefer MBTP, to the point that we wouldn't stay anywhere else. But I know some people don't like it. And that's okay, too. Really.

Just because someone else has a different preference than you (generic "you") doesn't invalidate your choice at all.

No, I didn't miss it. But since it's completely impossible for anyone on this forum to know the thoughts of the majority of RV'ers . . . I kindly ignored it.

OL is where we love to go and even my wife yesterday said she can't wait to go back in July. If OL had the same size beach that MBTP has then it would be 110% perfect. However, we have had no problem getting space on the beach. Just get there early and set up your chairs and umbrealla before everyone else. Early bird gets the worm.

I have camped at them all and for me its OL's or I will not go to MB. The others are out dated and the sites are to small. I hate backin sites and sites that dont face the ocean. Argue all you want there is no substitution for OL's. I have recomended it to lots of people over the years and they have all made it their primary CG in MB. It is constantly voted #1 for a reason and thats because the majority of campers prefer it. If you dont like it simply do go.This website is the only place I have ever heard of people that dont like OL's makes you wonder if some people just like to find a reason to complain.Everybody likes different things but the majority of RVers like OL's or it would not stay booked.

Will, you bring up a good point about facing the Ocean. Whether you can see it or not, you are facing the ocean, no matter what at OL. You will only face the ocean at hlaf the sites at Lakewood and Pirateland, as that is the way they are laid out. also, as you mentioned, OL is pull through sites. Lakewood and Pirateland are back in.

To the OP, what you mention of an ideal place at the beach is not in Myrtle Beach. You can have a state park, but you will not be on the ocean. You will have craziness no matter where you go in Myrtle Beach. But that's just what Myrtle Beach is. For what you are looking for, you might like the outer banks better.

During spring break, we waited till nearly noon to go out to the beach. While there were a lot of people, we had no problems finding a spot.

We have stayed at Ocean Lakes and MB State Park. IMO Ocean Lakes has all the amenities most people need and you probably never have to leave the compound. During the peak season it does get a little cramped with all the people but it's still very nice. Again, IMO I think OL has degraded a little since Mr. Jackson and Mrs. Jackson (the owners)passed a few years back; Mr. Jackson ran a tight ship. However, security from what I've seen, has suffered. Mr. Jackson was a huge law enforcement proponent and it showed in his security force. If I'm not mistaken, there aren't too many private security firms in SC that drive LE style vehicles with blue lights and have arrest authority. I'm not sure if they still do as it's been a couple of years since I've stayed there, but that's how it used to be. The teenager that was killed at OL was pretty much unavoidable from a security standpoint. It escalated quickly and as others have said could have happended anywhere.

We now mainly stay at MB State Park. The lots are decent size and there is plenty of shade. It has the feel that you're all alone. The bath houses are mostly clean and are within a few moments walk of any campsite. I also like that an armed LE officer is always on duty. There are also other non-armed rangers on duty. There isn't much in the way of things to do other than walking / biking the trails, hitting the education center, the beach / pier, gift shop and small convenience shop. There is no cable TV and most of the sites have water only (no sewage). BUT, for us the price is right and it's relaxing.

I think everyone should come visit Myrtle Beach though because it helps lower our taxes
