The one over riding question that comes to my mind is: Why does it bother you? That's the question you need answered. But the only honest answer has to come from you. Answwer that question honestly and you can fix what is really underlying the whole thing.
I worked for the same company for 41 years who provided me with a good pension as a benefit. I have two close friends who also worked for their respective companies for close to 40 years now but they both are responsible for their own pensions. Neither one will be able to retire until their late sixties; I retired at age sixty. When we first all started working many many years ago, none of us ever thought about retirement planning, it just wasn't the thing to do.
So yes I'm lucky but I never feel guilty. Think of it as winning a forty year lottery.

Thanks for the response. I was a bit down last night after a few comments from near by campers and feeling a bit guilty. But you all are right I am gratefully to have made it out of Viet Nam alive, survived a heart attack, had a great job and have a great retirement/medical plan. Thanks for lifting me up this morning. Gotta fire this bad boy up we are at Bryce headed to Capital Reef over Hwy 12. Thanks again ....Larry

I agree, some people can't or won't do what you and your wife have done and worked hard and made sacrifices to do so.
Some people make bad choices in life and then want society to pay for their bad choices...
You have done well...be proud and happy camping!

We, also, were "lucky". We worked jobs that required we be available 24/7 and rarely vacationed for over 40 years. We retired youngish and thoroughly enjoyed 9 years of fulltiming and now live in one of the most beautiful area in the country.
We worked extremely hard and PLANNED and that is what I say to folk who say we were lucky..... It does not bother me in the least
Enjoy what you have worked for and let them be envious!

My folks both retired at 50. There was a little bit of luck involved, but a whole LOT of hard work, planning, and wise investments.
I am truly happy for them, even when they call to tease me because I'm at work while they're on the 6th week of a trip! I tell them often to enjoy it and to spend every penny - they earned it all, they should get to enjoy it! I'll earn my own. But I ain't retiring at 50, that's for danged sure!
