Tell them luck had nothing to do with it, tell them you robbed banks for a living and were good at it. See if they are even listening.

Like you and your wife, we worked hard all our lives to enable us to enjoy our retirement.

I see it a little different than you, .. I feel VERY lucky to live in a country that has all the things we enjoy after doing all that hard work. We never take what we have for granted, we worked hard for it, but we feel blessed and lucky to have everything we need (including health) to take advantage of the beauty of our country.

So when someone says to me "you're lucky", ... I agree with them.

You couldn't have said it any better.
You echo my sentiments exactly.
There is not a day that goes by either when we are snow birding in Florida, or sitting on our front porch here in the mountains over looking the cascades in the trout stream in our front yard that I don't say: "How lucky we are"

I'm surprised it bothers you. Are they saying it with a scowl or a smile? I can picture myself saying that to a friend who retired - with a smile - and with good thoughts.

I think that if one makes it to retirement and is able to enjoy it they are lucky. Not everyone makes it. I would never take it as a slur as if you didn't work for it.

You are too particular - what would you like them to say?

How about - Good on ya, mate!

You are lucky! I have known 4 people that dropped dead on their job. My BIL made it to retirement and died 8 months later.

All you need to do is smile and say,"Yes we are!"

Retire, travel in your RV and enjoy it. You have reached your goal, don't worry about what someone else says or thinks.
Yes, you are lucky. Corkey05 said it all!

You are alive at retirement. You are lucky.
You are healthy at retirement to enjoy rv'ing. You are lucky.

Many will never be able to afford certain levels of retirement. Yes you are lucky.

For me personally, if someone says you are lucky (while I reflect on how hard I worked to get to this point in life and luck was on my side), I would smile and say YES I AM!

People can't make you feel bad. That's up to you - you have to choose to feel bad. As for myself, I never choose to feel bad about having something I've earned.

You are lucky. Some people work their butt off and still have nothing because of bad luck. I do agree with the statement that sometimes people create their own luck.

No one can make you feel guilty. You are doing it to yourself, why, I can't imagine. Unless you find yourself being able to do so much of what you could not do before. Don't feel guilty, I really don't think your friends are trying to make you feel that way with malice. Some of your friends forfeited their chance to have what you do by frivolous or unfortunate life circumstances. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.
