I tried to search and didn't find it. There was a post for someone putting an LED light strip above their steps and it had instruction and sources for the lights. I cannot for the life of me find it but that was back before the DIY was all combined.

I want to put a small (10-12 inch) not too bright, waterproof LED strip in each of my steps.

I installed a strip of LEDs above my steps... I used a strip of automobile accent LEDs. I mounted the LED strip underneath the camper above the steps near the camper's edge. The negative lead was grounded to the frame and the positive lead was ran in the door frame to a switch beside the door.

It works very well illuminating the steps without putting off a lot of light.

Happy Camping!
John.

Any automotive parts stores carriers quite a few selections. Even Walmart's automotive section with all of the stick-on decals and accessories has them. Various colors are available.

Hi All.

Thought about it, but then decided against it. As I already have a very good LED Motion Detection Porch Light above the doorway as it is.

I have a choice of either just ON, or it set to Motion Detection Only.

It already does a very good job of lighting up the steps and the surounding area. The LED Bulb that I have in it, does Swivel, so I can tilt it towards the ground, so not to bother other RVers.

It works great for our needs. Its also under the Awning, so the LED Light doesn't bother anyone if the Awning is in the open position anyays.

Does a great job just the way it is. I also have the very same LED Light on the other side of our Motorhome as well.

Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

Downtheroad showed the RV step light. I have personally installed it and here is the results.

On the bottom step I mounted 2 12" led strips I picked up from PEP Boys.

Majority of wires are protected by plastic wire wrap. Everything operates smoothly and the wires are protected as the steps are pulled out or retracted.

The amber step light that was original and hidden in the back of the step well was worthless. I pulled the bulb assembly out and it acts as a junction box for the wires.

I just discovered that mine has an amber light in the back of the step well also but I haven't figured out how to turn the stupid thing on. Would be a handy place to wire up a better one for sure. Now I have to figure out how to do it in the back door by the bathroom, no factory light there.

I purchased ours at WalMart for about $12 for two 6" strips. Mine are blue... I'd prefer clear, but they did not have them at the time. I did not trust the double sided tape and used a couple insulated hold down clamps I had laying around.

Initially, I mounted the LEDs a bit close to the frame, but did not get the illumination I expected. I later moved them closer to the edge of the camper and get much more light now.

Happy Camping!
John.
