Does anyone use a preformance chip on their tow vehicle? I would like to put one on my 2011 Dodge 2500HD /w Cummings Engine. I don't really care about Horse Power, would just like to get some more fuel milage. I have looked at the Bullydog Triple Dog Programmer, but it is hard wired to the truck. Would like something that is just Plug and Play, I had one on my 2007 Dakota and worked just fine.

In my opinion the manufacturers are doing everything to get the best fuel milage they can while keeping it compliant. I would never add a tuner to my truck as it WILL cause problems. Then it will be "I need to remove my tuner because xxx failed" can the manufacturer find out if I had a tuner on there.

Just my opinion

Son and I put the one for 6.0 power stroke. More power and increased milage.

I don't have a Cummins, but I do have a Duramax. I have been using Superchips since 1999 on Ford and GM diesels with no problems. I now have a Superchips Flashpaq ($300) on my Sierra. I like Superchips because they aren't a very aggressive tune. I have tried others and they sound like they are ragging my engine. I get 2-3mpg on the tow/performance setting regardless of what the nay sayers may have to say. I've read the DiabloSport yields pretty high EGT's, so I personally stay away from them.

I ran a SMARTY Jr on my last truck for 2 or 3 years. LOVED the additional performance that it gave me, but hand calculated, there was very little if any difference in MPG.

If you are only looking for increased MPG you are likely to be disappointed.

Best, cheapest way to get better fuel mileage is to slow down.

That's what I do with my gas guzzling 8.1 big block Chev (2005). I consistently get 9.0 o 9.3 mpg at 58-60 mph. Besides, ST tires are only rated to 65-mph - never a blow out - yet.

From a person who is a big fan of aftermarket tuning, and has been using it in various forms for the past 6 or so years, here are the facts:

1. You risk getting your powertrain warranty voided.
2. You are very unlikely to gain any mpg.
3. You will get more power.

Performance devices will do just that -- performance as in power increases. You will never live long enough to break even on the cost of the device with fuel savings.

I run a H&S tuner on my 6.4L. It is truly plug and play except for 1 power wire. Can be removed, while keeping the tuned program intact. You could plug it in, install the new tune, remove it and drive untill you want to change it.I have been told you can go back to the original tune and the dealer can't tell it was changed, I've also been told they can tell and void the warranty. Don't know which is true. My truck is'nt covered by warranty any longer so not a problem for me anyhow's. Lots of extra power if you want it, 3 different power levels, I only need to use the first level as I find this is plenty for me. I believe the only way to improve on the gas mileage though is to do the delete's which I'm not sure I'd want to do on such a new vehicle. The H&S handles the deletes, and can remove the speed limiter as well. Mine is an 08, I think if my truck was an '11 I'd personnally wait untill warranty was up to do this. JMHO. Enjoy!
