I checked out the horseback riding when I stayed there. They took one look at me (I'm not overweight, I'm under tall)and said I had to carry the horse.

If you are in the Black Hills the last weekend in September don't miss the buffalo roundup in Custer State Park. There is also an art/craft show there at the same time that is good. Big Pine campground on the west side of the city of Custer is also a good campground.
Stayed at Happy Holiday campground just south of Rapid City a few years ago. It was really a nice place to stay and I've always kept it in mind should we return to the Black Hills.
