My dash air fan is howling like a bearing is going out on my 97 Monaco DP. Does anyone know how to get at the fan? There appears to be a box with hoses coming out on the outside firewall , but it looks pretty tight to get at. Is it possible to get to it from the inside?

Spartan and Freightliner chassis with Cummins used Desco systems. They have a manual on the Desco web site. On our 2004 Bounder the fan motor burned out. Access was by pulling the panel off in front of the passenger seat. Fan motor was easy to remove once the panel was out of the way.

You may also be able to lube the fan bushings. Use a light, non-detergent oil such as sewing machine oil.

Some fan motors have a hole in the outside of the fan motor (outboard end) covered by a sticker. You might get lucky and have one with the hole.A shot of turbine oil will probably cure the squeal. I have seen other s actually drill a small hole in the motor end center of the shaft to lube the bushing.

I don't really remember how to get to it.. Have you had a professional look at it yet?
