Id like to check the timing on my motorhome. I crawled underneath, I can see & touch the timing tab, but how do I get a timing light on it. I cant see it through the doghouse. It almost looks like one has to remove drivers side wheel & get to it through the wheel well. any ideas ? much appreciated john

From underneath, fasten timing light to #5 plug wire, other wire to ground. I think it's 5*before top dead center. Its been a long time since I did this so take it for what its worth. I think you have to take off vacuum line too.Do not change timing if its running OK. My advice only!!

Make sure the HEI advance weights are moving correctly and not rusted up. My procedure was to advance until I heard it ping on hard accel then back off until it didn't. Never broke a piston and my P-30 always ran well. However it one is hard of hearing this won't work. I ALWAYS carried a complete replacement distributor/coil/wire package with me.

We never used the motor air conditioner, just the house air. I removed the compressor and everything related to it. Now I just lay on the air cleaner with the motor running and check it. With the compressor and condenser gone the 454 run cool even up hills. Just my way of doing things.....
