The main thing to keep in mind is they are ice MAKERS, not ice STORERS. You have to keep up removing the ice cubes to an insulated ice chest or freezer. Otherwise they either melt together in a clump or just turn into liquid.

We loved ours until the weather got hot and we had to run air conditioning. The Emerson we had put a LOT of hot air out.
It was wonderful having the ice, but the heat was hard to get rid of.

never bother removing it. We just let it melt. As it melts the water goes back into the tank and becomes ice again.

My SIL bought one for her house when she didn't have an ice maker in the fridge. She let us use it when we were camping and we had plenty of ice. We put it on a table outside under the awning so we didn't keep having to go in and out of the MH letting bugs, etc. in. We didn't have a place to store it in the MH so we let it ride in the back of the Saturn when we were on the road and at home we stored it in our garage storage room. Its a good thing. You wont' be disappointed.

We've been running it 24/7 for about two years.
Works as advertised. "Prime" it with a quart baggie of ice and it'll produce right away; if not, it'll take a while but if you start it at noon you'll certainly have a basket of ice by early happy hour.
This is an ice-maker, not an ice-storer, so if you want bags you'll have to store them in your freezer. You could churn out a respectable amount of ice if you wanted to babysit the process.
Highly recommended.

Wouldn't camp without one!!! We empty the cubes into gallon ziplocks and they either go into the RV freezer to harden up or into our ice chest we keep in the toad. Great convienence for the $$. Go for it!!

We make all of our ice ahead of time at home and keep it in a chest freezer in the basement. I bought a countertop model from Air N Water.com that has a self cleaning function and best of all- it has a timer on it. I can set it to make me a full basket of ice at various times of the day. Where I live, the little bags of ice at the gas stations are a big rip-off. This machine has paid for itself many times over. I'm only a weekend camper so I don't need to take the machine with me and by storing it in a chest freezer, it lasts just as long as ice that's purchased. One word of caution though, they are relatively noisy. I keep mine set up in the basement where I don't have to listen to it.

Dometic Portable Stainless Steel Ice Maker. This machine works great. i've had it for two years now and its still making ice like it was brand new. Cant really use it to fill up the ice chest but just to ice down drinks in your cup or mug. I use it year round, not only when im camping but in the house. Highly recommend it.
Hate living in the house which is like a box.
So I like Tent Camping.

We have the portable one in the camper. It will not make enough ice to keep a cooler full, especially a large one. At home we have a U-LINE ice maker. I dont know which model we have but it is a permanent hookup, SEPARATE FROM THE FRIG.. Makes more then enough ice. When we hit the road this is the one I will have in my camper.

We bought the dometic model sold by camping world for this season. SO glad we did! We use it all the time. Great for parties at home too. It is just a maker. When we hear the ice dump, we check it. When the basket is full, we empty it into a large bag and freeze it. It does make "wet ice" as many reviewers of these products complain about. We just drop the bag to break the ice clumps when it is frozen. It has been worth the investment. Good luck in your research and camping this season!
