Put new tires on the dinghy resulting in traction problems when making turns on dirt or sandy roads. The wheels flip to the opposite direction. Anyone have any experience with this?

I've never had the problem with either our Hummer or Mustang.

It would help if you told us the make and model of toad.

You do not mention if the dingy is a 4 wheel drive, and you have it in 4 whell drive when it slips, or if the tires that you purchased are the same as what came with the vehicle, or you installed real narlly new ones.

If you go like a bat out of hell, and want tracktion, forget it, some tires are made to go on paved roads others are made to go off road, and then you have some that are made to go on both surfacess.

If you are driving on sand and you punch the accelerator to much, the vehicle will slip, the higher the speed of the tire in sand the more it slips.

Are you referring to when the dinghy is in tow, or driving under it's own power?

What make / model?

Te only time I have had that problem is if I make a tight turn in one direction and then immediatly make a turn in the opposite direction without striagtening the MH and letting the toad front wheels return to their straight direction.In other words back to back opposite turns will cause this.

It sounds as if your new tires have changed the caster, camber, and toe-in settings that your car is set up with.

The tire to road contact patch has moved outside of the alignment (especially caster) specs. Not an uncommon problem.

Have the front end re-aligned. If they can not align it, they will tell you what you need to do to correct the problem.

I've been in the auto repair business for over 30 years and never heard of a new set of properly sized and installed tires changing the alignment of a vehicle !!!

Let's take a stab at what may explain what happened.

If you have a MH with say an eg: 8' plus or minus rear overhang, your pivot point is your rear axle.

When you make a sharp left turn from a straight position with little forward movement, you put your steering wheel hard left and start to move forward the rear is going to swing to the right a considerable amount requiring the toad to follow that movement thus it's steering will start a right turn before you have pulled it forward enough to straighten it out to follow your left turn. If you are in soft sand etc. it may well have a problem correcting itself.

The opposite effect will happen under those conditions going to the right.

Next question or two to consider is did you change the tire size and possibly the wheel type to a wider stance. If you changed the geometry that could contribute to your problem.

I hope that makes sense as it'd difficult to explain without drawings.
