Has anyone stayed at this park? I read horrible reviews about it. I had made reservations but am wondering if I should cancel them?

Thanks.

Stayed at Clear Lake 5-6 years ago...all in all, I think its a Great Park with this one exception, dont go there in HOT weather. We picked a period of time that was Very Hot 100+....sure, we spent most of the day in the Lake but it was still pretty tough ( Im not one who likes to run my generator all day long in a State Park).

May can be almost as hot as July.

it's not a bad park but it's popular with boaters and it can get quite loud there.
there are also a number of Passport America private campgrounds around the lake that are cheaper than the state park.
and a couple of the Indian Casinos have their own RV park at cheaper prices than Clear Lake SP.

personally, i'd rather stay in Calistoga and drive up, for the day, to the lake if i wanted to be there.

Clear Lake is very shallow, (about 30' max) with little outflow. In hot summer there will be an algae bloom & in places quite stinky so swimming might be less than refreshing.
You'll probably be fine in May but as mentioned, July could be a problem.
Its a pretty area but the lake itself isn't clear as its name implies.

Thank you all for your comments. It sounds like I'd do better somewhere else. I did find a CG called Lake Mendicino and thought I might go there since I could use my NP pass there and that would certainly be cheaper.

I don't mean to put a damper on your plans but this news article from last year was enough to keep me from going to Lake Mendocino.
