Mine is under the kitchen sink, along with the wrench. I dump it in the fall, but leave the filter out. Never have used the filter.........

BTW. you can`t just use a filter from Home Depot or Menards or any home place. they don`t have the flow rate required for an RV system. I tried it once and the pump couldn`t push past the filter. I tried a different filter and the same thing. I ended up getting an RV specific filter and it then worked perfectly! If you want to use water out of your freshwater tank then you really should use one.
