We just bought a VW Golf to tow behind our motorhome. We're told we need a car dolly. Do we have to buy a car dolly with electric brakes?
Does anyone have recommendations on whether to use temporary magnetic lights or to have a wiring harness installed on the car? We already have the electrical hook up on the motorhome Post moved to Dinghy Towing forum from Towing.

I used magnetic tow lights that worked as intended, but a PITA to keep attached without scratching the car finish and having to align/drape the electrical cord. Had we not gone to a FW I would have installed proper wiring in the toad.
that's why I traded-in my pickup for an 1,800 lb smart car.

Check here: http://www.remcotowing.com/vehicles. Plug in you info and it will tell you what you need. After that you can go where ever you want to buy it.
You should have brakes on the dolly. Our Demco Kar Kaddy has hydraulic brakes. Just need light wiring. I installed separate bulbs in the rear taillights of our toad. Less hassle to hook up.

Been towing our Jetta since 03 no brakes and no problems, and it is heavier than a Golf. We put it on a dolly last from Alaska and still no problem, brakes not reqired in BC , there is a formual for weight.
