I was looking at things with a flashlight last night. Seems to me there should be some way to mod the lower kick panel (where your heels would rest if sitting on the couch) to allow it to flip up like a recliner...perhaps even a double (flips up, flips out)...
From what I could see, there is a fair amount of room under the couch. Not sure how the slide works and what room it needs there?
Anyone have any pics or anything of the slideout mechanisms? Specifically, what it would look like closed without the couch's kick panel installed?
I can take photos of the kick panel. There are two cabinet doors (one on either side of the kick panel) and a space in between. Behind that is the storage area, so if we used that to modify it like a recliner it would open that area.
Also, to make our couch into a bed seems different that others. We take the back and pull it forward over the seating area, it doesn't jack-knife like other couches.

We folded down the couch into a bed, but then the back of the sofa has the hard aluminum frame exposed and if you do lean against it, our feet are on the bed.
So we began searching for a solution using pillows. Problem was, they are either boring and out of place, too small (body pillows) or too soft (pet pillows) or too expensive ($$$).
This past week we went to a different Big Lots store and they had some very nice tan "pet pillows" with a design panel on them for $15 each. Very nice, but again, designed to flatten under a pet.
The pillow has an inner, zippered bag for the stuffing and a faux suede outer cover.
We bought two pillows, figuring we could add stuffing. Have you priced decent firm pillow stuffing lately ($$$)?
So a trip to Walmart, and we found Full sized egg crate type mattress toppers for $12. We cut it in half, wrapped it around the inner bag, and reinserted it all inside the pillow.
They are plenty firm, fit perfectly, match quite well, and can be used to sit upright or used to semi-recline. Our feet are supported just like a reclining chair.
We use the small pillows from the camper for the sides to prevent banged elbows on the sides of the exposed frame.
Hope this helps someone else!
We were really uncomfortable in the unmodified sofa, but now...we are very pleased.
Total cost of this "mod" (okay, mod-lite) is $30 for both pillows and $12 for the extra foam.
