A post in another thread about a non smoking section in a restaurant has made me wonder about how many states or provinces still allow smoking and to what degree. Here in BC, I think we must be the extreme in prohibition as there is no smoking inside any bar, pub or restaurant, nor on any patio even if it is completely uncovered!
We were surprised on our recent drive across the US, to be asked in a restaurant (Joplin Missouri?) whether we wanted 'smoking' or 'non smoking', then at night the pub we went to was 'smoking everywhere,' I think it may have been compulsory!
I am wondering how it is in your area, without getting into the usual smoking/non smoking arguments.
I don't believe in astrology. I am a Gemini and
we're very skeptical.
Quote: AZ and CA both have strict statewide non-smoking laws.
Quote: Washington and Oregon...very strict 'NO smoking' state wide laws.
Even hard core non food serving bars and taverns.
How about outside patios, decks or gardens attached to the bars & restaurants in these four states, do they allow smoking out there?
In AZ and CA they do.
Btw, when I've eaten in various places in Utah and Wyoming, I didn't notice anyone smoking (my allergies would have alerted me pretty quickly). I don't know if that was a result of State or local laws or I was just lucky.
Colorado is non-smoking in any and all public bldg. and businesses. Even bars and casinos now. It makes it nice for us non-smokers who do like to hit the casinos occasionally!
Check here for a map that shows which States have what kind of non-smoking laws. It's not 100% accurate since it shows CA as not prohibiting smoking in the work place and I'm pretty sure it is (unless that is covered by local laws). Curiously enough, WY shows no regulations so it may have been prohibited by local regulations where I was.

I couldn't get this link to work. However, Wikipedia has an extensive list by state including local differences. You can find it Here.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.
