You could go out and buy a few gallons of drinking water and not worry about it.

Doesn't your RV use the SAME water lines for city water as are used for storage tank water? Not sure what not using the storage tank has to do with sanitizing the lines.

The thought was to clean the lines by running the water through the tank that would take care of lines and tank.

So how long do people trust their fresh water tanks after sanitizing?
For the last two years I've been sanitizing every time we go out, but that gets tiring and uses a lot of water (three fill/dump cycles).
It would be nice to know that if I go camping two weeks after sanitizing, it's still good.
Maybe some people think once a year but that doesn't seem right to me, either.
Thanks!

Once per year for me. That's all I'm willing to do. I don't drink the water though.

Yes, we don't drink it, either. I'm just being super defensive about my young kids, not wanting them to get sick.

I read somewhere that with all the anti-bacterial soaps and other things we use now a days it is actually making it worse for our kids. They don't get exposed to all the germs to build up immunities so they end up getting sicker in the long run. I'm not saying this is a fact but it does give you some food for thought.

Yeah but there's a reason people sanitize.
I guess it's whatever folks are comfortable with.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've been doing this for many years with my now 6-yr-old son, and my 1-yr-old son will be on his 4th or 5th trip this weekend. IMHO, ingestion is the biggest concern, so if you're not drinking it....?????? Secondly, most of the water at CG's is potable and either supplied via a city/county source and/or potable, treated, and tested well supply. I'm an Environmental Scientist and deal with microbial stuff periodically. You usually don't hear of someone picking up something like Giardia (sp?)or some other bacterial/viral sickness unless they have been drinking from an untreated supply. Sanitizing your lines mainly just kills any potential biological and/or fungal growth inside the tank/lines, and again....just MHO, I'm not sure if there is enough of an oxygen supply inside those areas to support sustained growth (when empty that is). With that said, I know people who NEVER sanitize and have NOT been doing so for 20+ years with no problems. It's simply a proactive maintenance task. Right or wrong, I as well as many others, only tend to sanitize once per year. Would it be good to do it more......probably. Is it necessary.....doubt it but I'm no expert. It's your choice. Personally, I expose my kids to more hazards than a dirty water tank/lines. We play hard; that's just how we are. You have to weigh that risk on your own.

Good luck in whatever you decide and Happy Camping!!!

I have not seen any mention about sanitizing the water hose that would be connected for the city water connection. I have a new to me trailer that came with 2 lengths of white hoses for city connection. I'm not sure if they used them with non potable water. Has anyone sanitized their city connection hoses?

Wow, even I don't go there!
I run so much water through the hose that I assume nothing is really collecting in there. I just worry about slime growing in places that are still/stagnant.
