Hmm straight down that front corner inside would be ideal-does there happen to be any cabnetry or trim work inside to conceal wires, or possibly use surface mount wire cover. Could use a weather proof box to pentrate roof, run down to controller then drop right into battery box.

I had originally been thinking of running the wire down through the 1.5" square tubing that is the wall framing, however, I think you've got me onto a winning plan.

There is room around the slide mechanism that would allow me to run the wires down, completely hidden and safe. That would leave two moderately tricky parts: getting a hole through the roof in the right spot, and also through the floor. The floor is probably the harder one, because of more likelihood of running into obstructions.

What kind of junction box should be mounted to the roof? Not just a household exterior junction box, right? Looking at various how-to's etc, it kind of looks like that might be what people use. Since I'll be mounting this flat on the roof, the normal wall-mount junction box is not the best idea...I'll have to look for more options.

I would look at boat supply places like West Marine, or other marine supply house, to see what they have in the way of cockpit or deck fittings for passing wires through the deck . My son had a sailboat that had numerous wires from the mast going down through the cabin roof and he had a fitting that let the wires go through but sealed out any water. Like this one, or possibly this one.

Yes just a simple weather proof pvc gang box from any hardware, hole in bottom (or drill your own), use a compression fitting to enter the box thru side knockout. Sealed to roof I used one for tv conection (painted white). Nice cause gives you some wiggle room mounting box over hole thru roof. drilled inside of box for some sst screw to attach to roof. Bedded in buytl tap and dicor caulked. Theres all kinds of boxes that can be used-
My hint would be a small hole thru one side (cieling or down thru roof)-use stiff wire to insure nothing behind before going thru.

Trick may be thru floor but at least it wont be trying to seal against water (though sealed if directly into battery area)-or how its routed not visbly a concern. Oh just registered using the frame alum tubing-Hmm might work but no way to ensure no sharp edges or blind butt joints--or how youd even really use/find? Nah...

I have been using the CARLON type PVC Electrical Junction Boxes available from LOWES like shown here to go thru trailer walls and floors for large #4AWG type batteries cables and other cable assys.. These boxes all have weather tight lids and can be used with different sisz PVC flexible and rigid PVC conduit. Theses boxes also come in various numbers of inlets and make a great way to go through wall and floors.

Since the bottom of these boxes are completely flush you can mount two like boxes aligned up on both sides of wall or floor and drill a large two-inch or smaller hole thru the centers of two of these boxes one installed on each side of the wall or floor.

Yus can glue in a flush piece of rigid pvc conduit to completely give you a full 2-inch passage way through the wall or floor. This hole will be completely flush on both sides and be sealed with a rubber gasket or RTV sealent and be very weathertight as well as bug tight.

Using any number of different holes you can route various cable paths in many directions using either 3/4-inch flexible or rigid conduit from point A to point B.

Once all the cables have been pulled thru you place the weather sealed lids on these boxes and all is sealed up real good and looks very professionsal.

I have been doing this procedures for years now routing large battery cable around the trailers keeping it all out of sight and protected from everything.

I have never thought about using this technique for solar panel wiring but it could be easily adaptable to getting inside the trailers I would think. I realize the roof area is more prone to ultravilot rays but just putting this up as the way I use these boxes and conduit for the large battery cables... Might trigger some thought power on your end.

All of these items are available from your local LOWES or Home Depot electrical departments.
