Ok the wife and I have got the grand kids (5,7,11) for a week in June. We are taking them to Mt. Rushmore. We have been there several times staying in hotels and know all the sites we are taking them to see. My question is where is a nice RV park with a swimming pool, and playground near there. I would like to be within 20 miles. Thanks I know I will get some good answers.

Many folks don't like it, but I'd suggest the Palmer Gulch/Hill City KOA. It's got the amenities you want, plus you can rent horses and take trips through the area. We did it with our kids & had a blast.You can also rent convertibles! Free shuttle to and from Mt. Rushmore. Don't miss the program at night when they illuminate the carvings. No, this CG doesn't have rustic "ambiance" but your grandkids won't care.
Thanks, we were at Mt. Rushmore a couple of years ago for Veterns day. We went to the night lighting and they had all us veterns (20 yeas Air Force) come up front and the ranger gave a hell of a speach. Then he had us all say our name and branch. It was very moving.
Palmer Gulch/Hill City KOA gets the vote, hands down, for kids. More to do there than anywhere else and that is what kids want: pool, horses, ice cream, a lot of other kids. Rafter J is nicer, and I love it, but for kids--go where the kids go.

Most beautiful rustic CG is Sylvan Lake State Park. National Treasure 2 was filmed there.
