Hello,

So I'm doing this race in Virginia City, NV this weekend and I took my trailer up there a couple days ago to get a spot (it gets packed up there for this race). Well last night it got to about 23 degrees. I have water in the lines, water heater, etc., but at what point would think the lines might freeze inside the trailer? Since I'm not up there I don't have the heats on. I do have an enclosed underbelly so I'm not worried about the tanks, but more so the lines and water pump. It's a Forest River Stealth and I'd say it's not the most insulated trailer out there.

So if it's 23 outside I'm wondering what it migh have been inside and how cold would it have to be and for how long before lines would freeze? Just looking for a general idea since it really depends on the trailer. I don't think they froze but now I'm curious at what temp and for how long it would have to be at that temp before lines inside a trailer would freeze? Thanks

I would be worried with it being 23F and no heat on...

Odds are very high that your water lines froze. Whether they actually split is another story. Depends on how much room the ice had to expand in. You'll find out when you get there but be prepared.

BTW, the enclosed underbelly only serves a purpose when the furnace is running or there's another heat source, like a shop light inside.

Day time temp range will have a great influence on if your fittings cracked on the PEX lines. Hope it is sitting in the sun most of the day.

PEX tubing is the tubing of choice these days and is very resistant to freeze cracking but the plastic fittings, elbows/connectors and risers are not nearly so flexible ....

We had fittings in our kitchen and bathroom taps crack in much warmer temps than that. Good luck.

I'd be concerned if the temp. stayed cold for a long time but in V.C. the temps swing pretty good, you might be fine. I'd haul some water up there with you this weekend just in case.

So You're racing the V.C.G.P eh? What an epic event and one on my bucket list. A few friends of mine raced the second one held back in the 70's but I didn't make the trip with them. Have fun and ride safe!

Next to the Veiwfinders G.P. and Catalina this has to be one of the classic G.P.'s of all time.

Thanks for the replies. I friend of mine was up there this morning at 5am and it was 33 degrees. Trailer is parked in the sun, well today, it's been cloudy. I'm hoping it's all ok.

Yes, the VCGP. This will be my 4th time racing on Saturday. About 500 rides.... Lots or dust and rocks.

My rig is sitting at the local dealer's lot waiting for the last few warranty items to get sorted. Tonight's low will be in the low 20s (F) and I'm worried enough that I went over there yesterday and turned on the furnace (set to 40).

Woo Hoo! Have fun and wear a few tear offs! I expect a full report on Monday! We've been buying our trophies from Nick Fain who lives in V.C. and does the trophies for this race too, awesome dude.
