I have a 53 gallon tank in the bed of my truck (see sig) and would not be without it.It has a fuel gague mounted on the dashboard. It has its own pump which goes directly into the main fuel tank. Two filler necks so it can be filled from either side and both caps lock.
I had it installed at the Dulley Depot in Elkart Indiana last summer when I was in the area. Cost less than $1000.

If you put a bed tank in with its own hose and pump, no fuel system mods necessary. However it can get to be a hassle stopping to pump your own.

That's what I did and saved about $1000 over the cost of a Transfer-Flow system. When traveling I have to fill the main tank from the auxiliary tank once a day usually. Not a big deal IMO. $1000 will buy around 250 gallons of fuel, enough to cover a lot of ground.

However you do it an auxiliary tank is a wonderful addition. The main thing I love about it is not having to wonder if the next place you fill up will be easily accessible with the 5th wheel in tow.

I am speaking in generalities of course, as I have a Dodge and not a Ford.

60 gallon RDS aux tank, 12 volt shutoff valve,Airtex pump, Wix fuel filter/water separator and AutoMeter dash fuel gauge. All hooked to upfitter swithches and feeds the aft 40 gallon rear stock tank.

Fuel now goes thru three fuel filters and two water separators.
I've used this system for eight years in last truck(04 F250) and for a year in the new truck. I did use a smaller version in the 04.

By the way I've never had any water in any of the water separators, and hope it stays that way!!!!!

I have a 60 gallon RDS and love it. Ties in at the hose neck about 18"ish down from the cap. Make sure not to buy one too high in the bed that you can't see the hitch when hooking up. Also, on mine if I let it free-flow constantly the check engine light comes on because the computer doesn't register fuel consumption.

I have the ATTA tool box - 50 gallon combo that sits level with the bed rails. This is an auto transfer system, so I don't have to do that. I can pull a full day without stopping for fuel. Sure takes a load off knowing I don't have to look for a station with decent access every 200 miles.

I think most of these too small fuel tank questions come from folks that choose to buy the short box Ford truck. Short box...27 gals. Long box...38 gals? Just me but I got the 2011 F350 Supercab SRW with the 38 Gal tank. Lot more fuel than I have bladder!

How true. With a 450+ mile range I can be choosy about location and price. My OEM tank is only 19 gal, a mere swallow for my 7.3.
