Has anyone camped at Bandits Roost Campground in North Carolina? I am look for a campground within a two hour drive of Charlotte. Would like a campground with activites for the kids. Also, since my wife and I from Florida she doesn't handle mountain driving too well, so the campground would have to be located somewhere where the roads are not too steep. Finally, I'll be pulling a 2006 Keystone Outback (31 feet in length). Thanks

Recently drove thru, have never camped there. Doesn't look like much for kids...just a small swimming area. Seems to be mostly about fishing and boating.

How bout Kings Mountain....lots of hiking.

We were there for a few nights late last summer and I agree that I don't recall anything there for children. The swimming area was even cloced while we were there. It's a great place to relax, but as previously stated, if you don't fish, there's not much to do.

Bandits Roost is a great COE campground for those who enjoy boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. I've camped there numerous times. IIRC, they have a playground and a basketball court, neither of which I would use. I found it a great place to relax and with the federal "geezer pass", the price was about $11. The drive to the park, about 5 or 6 miles west of Wilkesboro, is more foothills than mountainous.

As a native Floridian and having lived a few years in Key West at 4' above sea level, I'm a believer in the biblical quote, "Lo, I am with thee always."

Well, there is a campground at Carowinds. Lots for kids to do there. no hills at all.

However if you do want to head towards the mountians but not to them. Yogie Bear at Marion is ver nice, with a water park, minigolf, paddle boats. Much to do.

Haven't stayed there but when asking about places to stay in charlotte, someone suggested san nicholas park

Here is the thread from when I asked about campgrounds near charlotte.

Also within 2 hours and might be worth a couple day stay is zooland family campground in asheboro. It is right near the NC zoo, has a jumping pillow, a pool, a small gameroom and fishing. It is not a great place to stay for a whole week but is a nice weekend destination.

Bandits Roost is quiet, not any formal activities for the kids. Not really in the mountains, so the hills won't be a problem. The Jellystones in Marion, NC and Swansea outside of columbia, SC, Asheville East KOA, Toe River Campground in Micaville are both great with lots of things for the kids to do. Dan Nicholas and Zooland are nice. However the list of campgrounds 2 hours from Charlotte is dependent on which side you come from. My clock starts on the southwest side...

We did Bandits Roost last year. As another stated, there was no swimming going on due to water level. There is a playground there. It's one of the least favorite campgrounds we have ever stayed at and one of the worst COE campgrounds we have seen as far as keeping up to date. They do have 2 dump stations. One of them was full and backing up. The good part was the coded access gate. We will probably never return.

Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury,NC / Rowan County is best spot for kids.
They have a bathhouse and a dump but do not offer sewer hookups. Kids will love it if you can maske it with the sewer restrictions.
