Leave them at home for a couple of trips and she will come around to letting you carry them in the burb or trailer. With the gas cap in the off position i have never had fumes from my EU1000

We tow with a Suburban and the wife will not agree to transport generators in the trailer or the Suburban. So what to do. I am looking for ideas. THanks!!
What's wrong with generators in the vehicles? I have two Yamaha EF 2000iS generators, and after they cool off, I put them back in their plastic bags, and then put them in their boxes and then I transport them either in the back of my Xterra, or in the TT.
Mine are brand new and clean, and have no odor.

In the event of an accident a gasoline filled projectile would not be a good thing. I know an accident is not likely but they never are planned.
A lot of engineering goes into securing the vehicle gas tank. Having the potential for a loose gas tank in the passenger compartment is very dangerous. Sort of like traveling with TNT.
You must be prepared for worst case scenario like a roll over. It is much safer not to have a gas filled projectile in the passenger compartment. Stuff happens!

She secretly wants you to get a new truck.
Seriously, you could get a plastic tote and then secure it to the roof rack. It will be a bear to get it up and down, but if she doesn't want it in any other place.

We have the Eu2000i with the cap that has the on/off vent and it travels in a standard Rubbermaid container in the back of the Tahoe.
Rubbermaid container does a few things. Makes it go from "steal me red" to "junk in the trunk", and also protects/holds accessories like cable lock and dc cables. Also masks any minor fuel that may have vented or spilled on the gen itself while running or during filling.
But with it in the back, no fumes so far and it's been in there for about 30 days this year.

I have no dog in this fight. Take this in the spirit it is meant. I not trying to be confrontational or criticize your decision. Obviously do what you think is best for you.
But why not put the container with genset in the unoccupied trailer vs. in the vehicle where there are passengers?
There are lots of things that could go wrong with gasoline during an accident but if there are no people involved there is a lot less risk.

I just set my honda in the doorway of the trailer and when I arrive at the campsite it is the first thing I unload. I have never smelt gas in the trailer...
