How much is the freight and mount and balance? I found it was cheaper to buy from my local dealer, 245/70/19.5 Toyo 608Z had them for almost a year and they are great, 2600.00 out the door for 6. Toyo's are made in either USA or Japan

I've replaced my original Michelins with Firestone Transforce. So far they are holding up nicely and cost less than the Michelins....

Talking to an otr driver at work, he had Doublecoin tires on his steer axle. He said they were his second pair...the first went over 100k (they went longer than the Michelins tney replaced), he had them capped, they have run ANOTHER 100k as drive tires. Needless to say, the current steer tires will be replaced with another pair of Doublecoins!

When you fork over twice as much for Michelins, you get HYPE!
Michelins are hands down the best tire out there. I hear people that can't afford Michelins, spreading BS and HYPE about what they can afford. Usually a much less tire in every way.

What flavor is the KoolAid today, Joey? Do you prefer to get it by the 50-gallon drum or in bulk straight from the tanker?

When you fork over twice as much for Michelins, you get HYPE. After the way they reamed people stuck with exploding XRV's (combined with their "It must be your fault, because outr tires are perfect!" attitude, I will never give them one cent of my money under any circumstances.

And the guy with the DC steer tires: when he bought his first pair to replace the OE Michelins...Bandag wouldn't take the Michelins for capping. Only ~3 years old, they were starting to crack already!

You are comparing apples to oranges here which was pointed out earlier. Go ahead and buy what you want. A lot of us have had nothing but great experience with Michelins. My experience with them goes back some 30 years so you can say what you want about them it isn't going to change what I buy.

X2 and I have had Michelins as recently as 08. Had them pulled off after pulling the camper 1 time because they flex so much. No more for me ever from the trucks to my lawn mower. Oh and yes I can afford any tire out there.

2oldman,

I bought my Michelin XDS2 225/70/19.5 load range G tires at Costco. Paid $335.00 each. The XDS2 is one of Michelin's flagship traction tires, made in France.

The brand discussion is interesting, but probably not as relevant as specific tire models and specific applications. For example, a Michelin LTX is an entirely different tire than an XRV which is entirely different than an XDS2.

And right on cue, the Michelin Tire Cult shows up. Three things have soured me on Michelins: the horrid customer service attitude that amounts to, "Our tires are perfect, therefore it is your fault. Shut up and buy another tire."
The massive price premium.
The fact that the ONLY tire I have had come apart with no previous damage was a Michelin. (215/85R16E LTX AT) It simply disintegrated...all that was left on the rim were the beads and a few inches of sidewall. It was a couple years old, no more than 20,000 miles. As expected, Michelin refused to lift a finger.

Correct, Scott. I don't know what the kid's on, but it certainly isn't reality he's smoking. I've had excellent service from Michelin tires and Michelin company going back 40 years here. I don't think some people can afford the best tire going is my read on him.
