On our way home to Maine, my wife and I want to pass through North Dakota and Saskatchewan to visit her grandfather's homestead (located on the ND/SK border). We've heard that the parks in North Dakota are packed with oil workers. Is this as true for the parks in southern Saskatchewan? The old farm is located near Marienthal, just south of Torquay. 2 years ago during the 1st week of Augus, we came across the Canada / USA boarder just above Williston N.D. and never had a problem finding a site on eaither side of the line, all the way down to Deadwood, however that was two years ago

Thanks, folks. Think I'd better start shopping for a reservation now, even though we are a month away from leaving.

We are starting our trip to Alaska in mid June and will be in Calgary area first week of July. I am finding that many campgrounds are full that week because of the Calgary Stampede cenntenial. But I had no difficulties getting reservations in North Dakota. Was also told that area around Woodlawn Regional Park in Saskatchewan was flooded last year and still rebuilding. So campsites may not be as plentiful as in the past.

Last year when traveling through there I did not even bother looking for a park.
We stopped overnight at Walmarts, truck stops and large grocery stores.

Have a look below, Sask Tourism. Touquay is seriously in the oil patch boom. Getting camping may well be a difficulty. I would get started now and try for reservations. My Mom was born and raised on a farm just outside of Manor, approximately 95miles north and east of Torquay. Manor is east of Carlyle on HWY 13.
Good Luck;
Vic
